From the CD liner notes]:
"By the time these recordings were made in 1947 Homer & Jethro were already well established and famous for their "butchering" of popular songs. No song was safe once the boys got to work on it, be it a country or pop standard, as witnessed here. Musically they were unbeatable - and their blend of vocals with mandolin and guitar accompaniment is still unmatched today. Jethro Burns' mandolin playing was greatly admired in particular. He was the Stephane Grappelli of his instrument, and Homer Haynes complemented him beautifully.
Both men enjoyed a long and fruitful career which lasted 39 years, ending only with Homer's death in 1971. Jethro went into semi-retirement but continued to do guest appearances on a number of diverse recording sessions where his mandolin playing was listened to with awe by younger musicians. He died in 1989.
Thre music and humor of Homer & Jethro never seems to date and continues to amuse people of all musicial persuasions - and long may that be so." -- Brian Golbey, Britsih Archive of Country Music, 2003
