Specifications:
"Blues music, playing and singing, comes from the personal experiences of living. It tells the stories of emotional pain and suffering; unrequited love, cheating lovers, loneliness, sorrow, hard labor with little or no reward, trains, trucks and barroom brawls, poverty, hopelessness, and the need to escape and roam in hopes of finding a better life.
Mose Rager, who was Merle Travis' mentor, was a great guitarist and probably the world's greatest white blues singer. He learned to play blues by watching and listening to some of the guitar playing coal miners.
Mose loved the music of Charles Brown, Ray Charles and Bessie Smith, and he often spoke of Sylvester Weaver. The blues seemed inherent in him.
I spent many happy hours and days in Mose's barbershop and on his front porch listening to him play and sing, watching his hands, memorizing chords and licks and absorbing music. I feel that I am very fortunate to have been born and raised in Muhlenberg County, Kentucky, to have learned from the masters and to have absorbed the music of the coal mines." - Tommy Flint, 2003
