[excerpt from the CD liner notes]:
"The recordings featured on this selction are transcription discs for assorted radio shows during Chet Atkins' early career; with Mother Maybelle and theCarter Sisters and Shorty Thompson, as well as syndicated shows emceed by country music artists Jimmy Dean and Faron Young. The last of these selcted shows feature Chet's later style performance (compare tracks 28 and 30), as well as a young Hank Garland on the Faron Young title.
These recordings cover the period before Chet's Gretsch guitar days, when he played his various instruments such as his Gibson L7, L10, and the Gibson 175. But Chet said in his book Me & My Guitars, that he played his DAngelico Excel (no. 1839 with a P90 pickup at the bridge and a Bigsby up front) on all his Carter Family appearances. He was using a Fender Pro amp also at this time and what a sound this combination makes!" -- Brian Pymm, Country Routes 2003
